Transcreation Services

Transcreation, creative translation, or even adaptation…

I’m not going to bore you with definitions only linguists care about. The important thing for you to know is that however much creativity your texts call for to get the message across, they’ll always be handled with care and sensitivity.

Whenever I translate, I translate ideas. I’m always aware of the tone of voice, the audience, and the museum’s mission and values, and I make sure every little bit of that is reflected in your translated texts.

But there are also times when a text will contain a play on words, a pun, or a joke.

In those cases, you can rest assured you won’t receive a clunky literal translation, but a creative one that will preserve the effect and spirit of the original, but deliver it in a way that feels ‘local’ to your audience.

I translate ideas.

Over the years, I’ve been involved in very creative projects for museums. And let me tell you a secret – I love them!

While others might back off in the face of highly creative projects (and usually tight deadlines), this is where I truly come into my own.

In the past couple of years, for example:

  • I’ve translated what feels like an infinite number of children’s activities, always adapting the vocabulary and structures to fit each age group. And of course, creating language-based activities from scratch when the original ones can’t be translated!
  • I’ve translated poetry in labels more times than I can count. I’ll always have fond memories of the Botanical Garden that included a series of haikus in their Japanese trail, and which now are proudly paired with their Spanish counterparts.
  • And I’ve helped museums re-create in-gallery games for which new Spanish riddles needed to be written just using the works of art as inspiration.

You name it, I’ve done it!

So, if you have a highly creative project and you’re worried about not finding the right person for the job, get in touch.

I’ll be thrilled to hear all about it and work together to create something amazing.
